I had been pumping Shell V-power for my 1.5 Lancer for the past 3 years till I came across this article on petrol grade.

Had switched to Shell 98 since last month, engine still running, no knocking...and thats saves me some monies (abt 30cents/ L).

But one had to take note of the risk of using a higher octane fuel than necessary might send unburned fuel into the emission system. This will also be collected in the catalytic converter. Should any system overwork, it may breakdown or under perform.

Buying Property? Is it a Good Time to Invest?

There are so many bad reports about depressing prices on property, you find them almost every Sunday Times. So much same saying about US housing slump, 'hyper' inflation, projected weaker growth, oversupply of new residential projects in 2009..... but has anyone wonder why oil prices just shoot up over US$10 last Friday?

Some analysts would say its pure speculative moves becos of weaker Dollars, but some top bankers had predicted that crude oil will hit US$ 150 - US$200 by end 2008.

What would sustain such skyrocket prices for oil?

I don't think anyone has the answer or rather solution, perhaps not even the G8/ G12.

If that happens, surely inflation will continue to climb, how gradual or steep will partly depends on supply/demand and also our currency strength.

What will be the safest haven for investment then? Bonds?

What if we hit stagflation? Will bonds (with limited maturity) still give us a decent returns?

I guess private property prices has dropped 20% since beginning of 2008 in the CCR and CR (district 7/8/9/10/11/12), despite our economic fundamentals still strong as compared to the region.

Ironically, the mass matket HDB resale prices and valuations has climbed steadily.

Perhaps one needs the courage as a 'risk-taker' to get out of the wait-and-see attitude to sniff out some good bargains in those districts above. Forget about those prices that our parents bought in the 80s. If that happens, I guess we could only afford to pay for rice on our table.

The papers are splashed with SALE! SALE! SALE!

But when you visited the stores like JL and Robinsons, you always find the same stuff at the same discount (every quarter?).

Even other retail stores, SALE generally means you pay them to clear their old stock. If there are new stocks on display, they are nett price, despite GSS going on.

Perhaps you may find cheap deals at the Expo, but be prepared to get into long queues for saving your few dollars.

Find myself wasting so much time 'window' shopping along Orchard Rd instead of getting what I want.

Wondering why virtually all the retail stores carry so much long sleeve shirts with stripes. You hardly find other patterns to match with a tie.
